Well, this summer seems to be wizzing by with really kind and thoughtful guests arriving and leaving. It's such a pleasure to meet such lovely people every week! The Mille Miglia passed through Passignano last month so we had a great day watching the beautiful vintage cars roll through. We had lunch at some friends of ours a few weeks back, they have a beautiful house just up the road from Casa Leana, BBQ and pool time is what summer is all about! They came for a return dinner at ours a week later and brought a lovely bottle of white wine (Fiano di Avellino - Feudi di San Gregorio). Coincidentally this was our "go to" wine, usually purchased from Waitrose, back in the UK over a decade ago, how weird is that!? And... by far my most favourite thing this year, my son and grandson visited us! We had the best week. Quality time spent together, alfresco breakfasts, watching the lightening one balmy evening, pizza, pasta, ice creams galore and fun on the water. We stayed local for most of their trip with a couple of days further afield to the city of Arezzo (to the park at the top of town followed by lunch and ice cream) and Lake Trasimeno for a day on the beach. It was such a magical week and I keep finding little toys and things around the house that remind me of their visit. I miss them so much but hopefully they'll be back again before the season ends so I can start looking forward to that plus we have some friends and more family visiting soon so that will keep us amused. The sunflowers are still out. We went for dinner at one of the local restaurants last week and there is a sunflower field right next to it - such a great instagram moment if you are into that kind of thing. Taking fabulous photographs at this time of year is easy, everything is so colourful! The weather is gorgeous, blue skies and sunshine every day. The Wednesday evening markets in Anghiari have begun which is a sure sign that we are in the midst of summer! Live music, balloons, candy floss - a bit of old fashioned fun for all the family. These evening markets get going around 8.30pm and usually end around midnight. As you can tell from my blog, it's been a very full month and I've only been on a couple of bike rides. I'm planning on more this month - going out early is key during the summer. It's just beautiful first thing especially for cycling or walking. I love love love cycling through the farmers fields and vineyards at this time of year. I think that's it. Have a great weekend everyone. Oh my goodness... I forgot to mention the Palio in Anghiari. I said it had been hectic this month! This event happens every year to commemorate the "Battle of Anghiari" which took place a long long time ago... Lots of the villagers dress up in authentic attire with music and flag throwing - it's a beautiful and very colourful affair. There is also a race up the Anghiari hill (madness) where a lot of young men from all over Tuscany run up the hill pushing and shoving each other in an effort to get to the piazza finish line. It's completely bonkers and exhausting for the runners I imagine but great fun to watch while sipping a glass of Prosecco and eating pizza! Ha ha... D I A N A xxx

Welcome to my blog...Just a little insight into our lives here. After eleven years of living in Tuscany I thought it was about time to have a go at blogging when one of my lovely friends said she had received (what she thought!) was an extremely funny text from me, hmmm.. How difficult can it be?!
