anghiari
Anghiari is the nearest village to Casa Leana (about a five
minute drive). It is famous for the Battle of Anghiari between Florence and Milan which took place there on 29 June 1440. The battle inspired a fresco in the Palazzo Vecchio by Leonardo da Vinci.
It is rated one of the most beautiful villages in Italy. The panoramic view from Anghiari is truly spectacular with the long straight road running across the flat floor of the upper Tiber Valley from Sansepolcro and up the steep hill to Anghiari.
You will find several antique shops in the town plus lots of restaurants and a couple of small supermarkets. It is ideal for an evening out particularly between the months of April and September when lots of events take place including Arts and Craft fairs and open air music events and markets.

sansepolcro
Situated on the upper reaches of the Tiber river, the town is the birthplace of the painters Piero della Francesca, Raffaellino del Colle (a pupil of Raphael), Santi di Tito, and Angiolo Tricca.
It was also the birthplace of the Italian mathematician Luca Pacioli, and of Matteo Cioni, who translated into Latin Piero della Francesca's treatise about perspective in painting (De Prospectiva Pingendi).
There are many ice cream parlours, coffee shops, designer clothes stores as well as some fantastic restaurants and a particularly wonderful Pasticceria (Chieli) serving a huge selection of sweet and savoury delights.
